I retooled my homepage now. I did away with the back-side of the post card that was the large header and did a postcard collage of sorts instead. I found Forte MT was a great font to use. It gives the site a '50s feel. I found that RED was also a good color to use for the font because just about all the other basic colors were major colors in the post cards. Using colors like black, white, brown, blue, green cause the font to blend in with the cards. There are enough little shimmers of red in the cards which the red font seems to pull out. I tried to use some of visual tricks from Tufte, namely trying to give the perception of depth to the cards. The post card of the Statute of Liberty is slightly larger than those of the second tier. The cards of the second tier are slightly larger than those of the 3rd tier. Also I used the shadow technique from Photo Shop around the cards of the first two tiers. The borders around the words in the heading are also highlighted in black. I still have work to do, especially on the Nav bar. Maybe make it flow more seamlessly with the main content. A task for this weekend. Suggestions are most appreciated.
Jeff,
I really like the 3D effect you made with the cards. That turned out great. The red letters seemed awful bright on my monitor. It was hard to read them. Also you misspelled media.

John,
Thanks for the comments. I'll need to take a look at the title on another monitor. My lap top always seems to show things a shade lighter than a desk top for some reason. Also thanks for catching the spelling error! I corrected it.
